Back to school, it was the last case we conceived. Perhaps, it might be the most difficult because this case always takes prepositions, unlike others.

You might see one of the posts (1, 2) where we discussed the tables based on just two prepositions. One of the reasons why this case we call the locative case as well. You may vary the prepositions but the endings mainly won’t be changed. So that’s why it might be a little easier for you now. Let’s dig in a little.
The PC is used in several different contexts, such as:
To show location:
Они живут в квартире номер пятнадцать. – They live in apartment 15.
As the object of either the preposition “в” or “на” when they do not express movement in a direction:
Дело в том, что он ничего не делает. – The problem is he doesn’t do anything.
As the object of the preposition “о” meaning “about”:
Вчера мы разговаривали о нашей поездке в Ярославль. – Yesterday we talked about our trip to Yaroslavl.
As the object of the preposition “при” meaning “under the auspices”, “in the presence of”, or “during the reign or administration of”:
Не говори так при детях! – Don’t speak like that in front of children!
As the object of either the preposition “в” or “на” in certain idiomatic expressions:
1) Играть на гитаре. – To play gtuitar.
2) Жениться на ком-то (только в отношении девушек). – to marry someone (said of a man marrying a women and not vice versa, there is another phrase).
3) Сомневаться в чём-то. – to doubt something.
in certain “connecting” phrases:
во-первых, во-вторых, в-третьих… – in the first, second, third…
